Discovering servers running Microsoft Windows and Windows Server requires that at least one instance of the Windows Discovery Service (WDS) be installed on your network.
This video assumes you’ve already set up a Remote Collector (RC), and have a working Device42 virtual appliance up and running. If you haven’t set up an RC yet, see the “Setting up an RC” Getting Started video.
Note that you *CAN* connect a WDS directly to your Device42 Main Appliance, but that the main appliance has limits on how large individual discovery jobs and target networks can be. RCs are /not/ subject to these limits, and they can dedicate all of their resources to discovery, and do not have to run the main Device42 application or web interface, and we, therefore, recommend everyone set up at least one, no matter how small your network / IT infrastructure deployment may be.
