Bell Canada spokesman Nathan Gibson told Canadian press that \u201cfewer than 100,000 customers were affected.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bell Canada has emailed impacted customers to alert them of the situation and with John Watson, customer experience, stating that \u201cadditional security authentication and identification requirements have been implemented\u201d to accounts.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe protection of customer and corporate information is of primary importance to Bell,\u201d the email continued. \u201cWe work closely with the RCMP and other law enforcement agencies, government bodies and the broader technology industry to combat the growth of cybercrimes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stephanie Dumoulin, RCMP spokesperson at the police force\u2019s national division in Ottawa, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.priv.gc.ca\/en\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">Office of the Privacy Commissioner<\/a>, advised that she was unable to discuss details.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are following up with Bell to obtain information regarding what took place and what they are doing to mitigate the situation, and to determine follow up actions,\u201d said the federal privacy watchdog\u2019s spokeswoman Tobi Cohen.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A data breach at Bell Canada appears to have compromised customer names and email addresses, with the RCMP launching an investigation into the incident, according to reports.
